Favourite new discovery

I noticed a new arrival in my local shopping haunt a couple of weeks ago but only had a chance to go in and take a good look recently. West Elm is a furniture and homewares store from the Williams-Sonoma group in the US and a very welcome addition to the Australian shopping scene.

Maybe it's something to do with heading fast towards my 30's and some kind of weird female urge to nest but I've found myself much more interested in homewares recently. The idea of investing a bit more time, effort and money into finding bits and pieces that you love and make your home feel special suddenly doesn't seem like such a bad idea. In fact, it seems like a great one.

West Elm offers a range of affordable, simple, stylish pieces, many of which have been designed in collaboration with independent designers, giving the whole space a real boutique feel.

I instantly fell in love with half the store but somehow managed to walk out with only one thing in my shopping bag-that's serious willpower in my book. My purchase was a pewter-ish coloured lacquer tray which is now sitting pretty on our Ottoman and housing some candles and a selection of necessary high brow reading material (Elle and a London Style Guide).

If you're looking for some interesting updates for your home, I highly recommend heading down to take a look. The Melbourne store is on Chapel Street and there is also a branch at Bondi Junction in Sydney. For UK fans, head down to Tottenham Court Road.

Take a look at my favourite picks from West Elm.
